Mangshan Mausoleum Group is a large-scale national cultural relics protection unit in China, and it is also one of the areas where ancient mausoleums are concentrated in the world. There are more than ten tombs of emperors in the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Cao Wei Dynasty, the Western Jin Dynasty and the Northern Wei Dynasty, and there are more than a thousand tombs buried with the royal family and ministers. On Mangshan Mountain, large and small earthen bags are the tombs of emperors, princes and dignitaries, which are the ancient tombs of Mangshan Mountain.
Mangshan Mountain, also known as Beimangshan Mountain, belongs to the middle part of the Qinling Mountains. It is located in the loess hilly area on the south bank of the Yellow River and the north of Luoyang City, with an altitude of about 150 meters, above the water surface of the Yellow River and Luohe River. It is 16 km long from north to south and 30 km wide from east to west, covering an area of about 500 square kilometers, with open terrain. In the soil layer 5- 15 meters below Mangshan surface, it has low water permeability, good bonding performance and compact soil, which is most suitable for placing graves.

Mangshan has beautiful mountains and rivers and pleasant scenery. Although the mountain is not high, the soil is thick and the water is low, which is suitable for funeral. Therefore, there are many tombs of ancient emperors on Mangshan Mountain, which has been the cemetery of Luoyang people since the Eastern Han Dynasty. There are tombs of celebrities in the past dynasties, such as Lv Buwei in the Qin Dynasty, Chen Houzhu in the Southern Dynasties, Li Houzhu in the Southern Tang Dynasty, Sima family in the Western Jin Dynasty, the original tomb of Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of Han Dynasty, poets Du Fu, Yan Zhenqing and Wang Duo in the Tang Dynasty.
