Speaking of Chengde, it is one of the first batch of national historical and cultural cities certified by my country. Famous scenic spots such as the Summer Resort, Jinshanling Great Wall, and Qingchui Peak are all here.
As a tourist city, Chengde has no shortage of delicious food. Speaking of Chengde’s top ten famous foods, it really makes people drool.
1. Eight Manchu bowls.
Back then, Emperor Kangxi built a summer resort in Chengde, where he would go to rest when he had time. He also brought the imperial chef to Chengde.
Manchu Eight Bowls is a specialty of the Manchu people. It consists of eight dishes including stir-fried small tofu with pickled vegetables, braised pork knuckles, and seared frog.
During the prosperous ages of Kangxi and Qianlong, the folk economy developed rapidly and the food culture was also very prosperous. The Manchu-Han Banquet was born at that time.
Today, Chengde still retains the unique delicacy of Manchu Eight Bowls.
2. Chengde jelly.
Although jelly is available everywhere, Chengde jelly is definitely a specialty of Chengde.
Chengde jelly has a history of more than 300 years. Because mung beans can clear away heat and detoxify, the ancestors of Chengde people used mung beans to make jelly and passed down this delicious taste.
3. The donkey rolls.
There are donkey rolls in Beijing, Tianjin and other places, so donkey rolls can be regarded as a famous food in that area.
It is rich in raw materials, including yellow rice noodles, soybean noodles, white sugar, etc. In some places, osmanthus is added to it.
Because its appearance is covered with soybean flour, it is like the loess thrown up when a donkey rolls, so it got such a name.
4. Almond tea.
This is also a delicacy introduced from the palace to the people. Almonds are ground into powder and added with peanuts, sesame, osmanthus, wolfberry and other ingredients. The fragrance is mellow and memorable.
I have to say that the princes and nobles really enjoy themselves.
Almond tea is made differently in different places, but you definitely can’t miss the almond tea in Chengde.

Rumor has it that this dish was one of Emperor Qianlong’s favorite imperial meals.
