This is where Shanshan and her three girls love life, photography, travel and food.
Recently, the three girls Shanshan came to Chaozhou for the first time as travelers. Because they wanted to experience the "sea" culture of Chaozhou, they came to Raoping Dacheng Bay to see the sea.
I have shared with you the "six major attractions" of Dacheng Island and the ancient "pulling net fishing" (interested friends can read the previous article "Counties in the "eastern part" of Guangdong have unique cultural scenery: "Pulling net fishing")
"Fishing is a photography paradise" "Guangdong Chaozhou's "original" bay, spanning Fujian and Guangdong, six major attractions, 130 yuan for food and accommodation for 2 days and 1 night"), today, the three girls Shanshan continue to take everyone to Raoping
Dacheng Island, taste a local traditional snack: rice dumplings.
Rice dumplings are a traditional "snack" eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival in the Chaoshan area. They are actually another form of rice dumplings.
Zongzi is named after its angular shape and is filled with glutinous rice; while rice dumplings are called "zong balls" because the rice is cooked in bamboo tubes and leaves and hung with salted grass like a ball.
Shanshan and her three girls arrived in Chaozhou just after the Dragon Boat Festival, but they kept thinking about Chaozhou's "rice dumplings".
Before setting off from Guangzhou, my Chaozhou friends in Guangzhou kept reminding me that I must try various local snacks when I arrive in Chaozhou, and Chaozhou’s “rice dumpling balls” were also mentioned in particular.
This Chaozhou friend told me: Every year around the Dragon Boat Festival, you will see online debates about whether rice dumplings are more delicious, sweet or salty.
But this problem becomes a "joke" in the Chaoshan area, because the rice dumplings in the Chaoshan area are both salty and sweet. The combination of salty and sweet is the most wonderful Chaoshan rice dumpling ball!
Listen to a friend.
The three girls Shanshan were confused. In the past, the rice dumplings they ate were always salty and sweet. Salty and sweet are distinct. What would it feel like if the same rice dumpling was both salty and sweet?
Is it tasty?
So, I kept the name of this snack in mind, hoping to taste it during my trip to Chaozhou.
While staying in the ancient city of Chaozhou, I never had the opportunity to see and taste "rice dumplings".
Until one day, the three girls Shanshan and I came to Dacheng Bay for a visit. Since dinner and breakfast were all provided at the accommodation, after dinner that day, the owner of the accommodation told me that we could have breakfast when we came back after watching the sunrise tomorrow.
, breakfast was "sweet potato porridge", and I had no expectations for breakfast at that time.
In the early morning, when Shanshan and her three girls watched the beautiful sunrise from the beach of Dacheng Bay, when they returned to their accommodation, they saw a pair of old people sitting on the beach, facing the sea, and the two old people were talking softly.
For a while the grandpa was holding the grandma's hand, and for a while the grandma was smiling at the grandpa again... I don't know why, at that moment, I felt that the picture was so beautiful, and it gave people a warm feeling. This was probably what I saw in Dachengwan
to the most beautiful and heartwarming pictures... I feel like today is a day where there will be unexpected gains or surprises!
Back at the accommodation, the owner of the hotel has prepared breakfast. In the morning, there is not only sweet potato porridge, but also steamed buns, side dishes... and the "rice dumplings" that the three girls Shanshan have been thinking about. This is really delicious.
A big unexpected surprise.
When the boss handed the rice dumplings to Shanshan and the three girls, the rice dumplings were hot, wrapped in salt water grass, bulging in the middle, with two corners on both sides, very beautiful.
When the surface temperature dropped a little, I opened the "rice dumplings". At first, I saw that the rice dumplings were similar to the rice dumplings we usually eat. The glutinous rice was mixed with "salty" fillings such as pork, shrimp, beans, and eggs...
...but when I continued to observe, I discovered the characteristics of Chaoshan rice dumplings. On the other side of the rice dumplings, I also saw a "sweet" ingredient: red bean paste.
This kind of rice dumplings with half salty filling and half sweet bean paste is also called "double-cooked rice dumpling" by the locals.
Shanshan and her three girls tasted the salty stuffing first, and then the sweet stuffing. The taste swirled in their mouths, but they felt so harmonious. The taste was so wonderful. They didn't expect that the combination of the two would give off a unique stuffing aroma.
It was soft and smooth, and I continued to eat it one bite at a time. A big "rice dumpling ball" was eaten by Shanshan and the three girls. They sighed in their hearts: There is really no need to compete between sweet and salty. Here, both are combined.
Just the most delicious.
A "sweet and salty" rice dumpling started Shanshan's three girls' beautiful day in Dachengwan. Next, Shanshan's three girls continued to take everyone to visit Chaozhou.
