Xue Tingchong, a scholar in the Ming Dynasty and a native of Shangxue Village, Longtian Town, Fuqing City, once impeached Yan Song. When Xue Tingchong was a child, his family was poor, and he plowed the fields all day. One day, he was walking in a narrow field with seedlings, and he saw a man coming head-on with a burden. Just as Xue Tingchong was in a dilemma, someone put down the burden and said, "If I make a couplet and you can match it, I will make way for you." Xue Tingchong promised and put down the seedling basket. Seeing that the bearer was thoughtful, he immediately revealed the first couplet: "Straw binds the seedling mother to take the child." When Xue Tingchong saw that the bearer was picking bamboo shoots, he remembered the unfortunate death of his biological mother and the difficult life with his father. He couldn't help but feel the situation and casually made a couplet: "Bamboo bears pick bamboo shoots on the father's back."
The bottom couplet is popular and ingenious, which shows that Xue Tingchong is quick-thinking. Hearing this, the visitor was overjoyed. He quickly pushed aside the bamboo shoots, took out a lot of books and said to Xue Tingchong, "It really deserves its reputation. I give these books to you, hoping that you will benefit the people of Lebanon in the coming year. "
