Malipo County is located in the southeast of Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province.

The county borders Funing County and Guangnan County in the northeast, Xichou County in the north, Maguan County in the southwest and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the southeast. There is a Tianbao national port in the county, which is the frontier and important trading port of Wenshan Prefecture and even Yunnan Province.

Malipo County is a inhabited area of ethnic minorities, mainly inhabited by eight ethnic groups: Han, Zhuang, Miao, Yao, Yi, Dai, Mongolian and Gelao. Traditional folk festivals are colorful, such as Qiao Cai Festival of Yi nationality, Wang Pan Festival of Yao nationality, Huashan Festival of Miao nationality and Huajie Festival of Zhuang nationality.

Xiaohedong site in Malipo County belongs to the earlier Neolithic site type in southeastern Yunnan, China, and it is the only Neolithic cave site found in southeastern Yunnan today. There are cultural relics protection units 14 in the county. Many precious national cultural resources, such as national folk costumes and batiks, have yet to be developed.

1. Hero Laoshan Holy Land Scenic Area is a national 4A-level tourist scenic spot. Laoshan Scenic Area is located in Malipo County, 400 kilometers away from Kunming, and consists of 42 scenic spots in five areas: Laoshan, Nanwenhe, Dawangyan, Xiajinchang and Xinzhai.

2. Babu Township Scenic Area is located in the middle of Malipo County.

3. Malipo Martyrs Cemetery is located among the pines and cypresses 4 kilometers north of Malipo County, Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan Province.
