Chicory is also known as bitter chicory, bitter greens, cascara sagrada, wrinkled-leafed bitter chicory and so on, it is a perennial herb of the genus Chicory in the family of Asteraceae. There are mainly two types of soft chicory and knotty chicory, distributed in Beijing, Heilongjiang, Liaoning and other places.

Chicory look

Chicory stems are upright growth, the basal leaves are rosette-shaped, the leaves are small and sessile, thinner, with sparse long nodding hairs on both sides. The ligulate florets are blue in color and the achenes are ellipsoid.

Chicory Color: Chicory stems are straight and green in color, the ligulate florets are blue, and the outer achenes are brown with brownish-black discoloration.

Chicory Leaf Morphological Characteristics: Chicory basal leaves rosulate, oblanceolate long elliptic, lyrate inverted pinnate-pinnatipartite, lateral lobes 3-6 pairs, apical lateral lobes are larger, all the lateral lobes sickle-shaped.

The appearance of chicory root: the main root of chicory is conical, with lateral roots and most of the fibrous roots, the surface is brownish-yellow, with wrinkles. It is not easy to break, with slight gas and bitter flavor.
