The audience first got to know Ma Zhiming from "Five Flavors". In 1986, Ma Zhiming and Xie Tianshun participated in the first CCTV Professional Crosstalk Actor Competition in Beijing and performed "Five Flavors". This cross talk was the idea of ??Zhu Xueying from the Tianjin Folk Art Troupe's choreography team. It was written by Shi Shichang and processed by Ma Zhiming, incorporating Ma's cross talk artistic techniques. Ma and Xie spent 20 days practicing and revising their scripts. The results were quite good when they participated in the semi-finals in Beijing. Unfortunately, they only received the Excellence Award in the finals.
