Zhijiang belongs to Huaihua City, Hunan Province and is a Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County.
Zhijiang Airport is located in Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County, Huaihua City, Hunan Province, 31 kilometers away from Huaihua City. The airport was built in October 1936. During the Anti-Japanese War, it was an important military base for the Chinese and American Air Forces and was known as the "second largest airport in the Far East." In 1945, China and Japan held the world-famous "Surrender Conference" here, declaring the final defeat of the Japanese invaders.
In December 2001, the Zhijiang Airport Renovation and Expansion Project was officially approved by the State Council and the Central Military Commission. In July 2002, the National Development and Reform Commission and the General Staff approved the "Hunan Province Huaihua Zhijiang Airport Renovation and Expansion Project" Feasibility Study Report", construction officially started in January 2003, and was included in the key projects of Hunan Province in the same year. After two years of construction, it passed completion acceptance in March 2005 and industry acceptance in August. It was officially opened to navigation on December 19 of the same year. The route from Huaihua to Guangzhou (via Changsha) has been opened. The project has been rated as an excellent project and an advanced unit in target management of municipal and provincial key projects.
The construction scale of Zhijiang Airport is a 3C domestic regional airport. The runway is 2,000 meters long and 45 meters wide. The terminal area is 1,560 square meters, which can accommodate the full load takeoff and landing of B737-300 aircraft.
