The 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month, also called "off-year", is a day for traditional culture in China to offer sacrifices to stoves, sweep dust and eat sugar. The folk song "Twenty-three, cantaloupe stick" refers to the annual sacrifice to the kitchen god on the 23rd or 24th of the twelfth lunar month. There is a saying that "officials, three people, four boatmen and five", that is, on the 23rd of the twelfth lunar month, officials hold sacrificial stoves, on the 24th, people hold sacrifices, and on the 25th, houseboats hold sacrifices.
