Origin of Yangji Village Name
Yangji Village is located in the eastern suburb of Guangzhou, adjacent to Dongshankou, and used to belong to Yongtai Township of Panyu.

960 years ago, people already inhabited this land. In the third year of the Tianxi era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1020), the Huang clan had already built a farm in the area of Shimenkou, the central part of Yangji Village. At that time, Yangji Village was still a small pier of the river bank, washed up by the Pearl River water into a block, the shape of which resembled the folk sieve of rice, thus earning it the name of "Dumpy Kei Li".

Time flies, from Song Renzong Jiayou years, because of the war, the imperial court appointed to serve in Guangdong or recommended by the same clan and other reasons, Yao's Zhufang ancestor, Li's Shamhai ancestor, Li's Lai Nan ancestor, Qin's Shihao ancestor, Yao's Junda ancestor, Yao's Liting ancestor, Liang's Guiming ancestor, successively came into the village to choose the land to build a foundation. Most of them were immigrants who moved southward from Shaanxi, Henan, Jiangxi, Minpu and other places. In this blank land, diligently develop their own homes.

Gradually, according to the four major surnames of Yao, Li, Qin, Liang, and five residential directions in the southeast, west, north, and south, the formation of "four societies and five about", "three Yao, two Li, and one Qin, Liang," the structure of the village. During the Hongzhi period of the Ming Dynasty, it was renamed Bianji Village.

At this time, the Huangs who first set foot here have faded from this land. It is said that when the first Yao family moved back to Yangji from Boro, they originally developed the area around Shimenkou in Yangji Village together with the Huang family. However, in the Yuanfeng years of Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty, it had developed to the point that "Yao Sheng Huang was weak", and there was a big gap between the two groups in terms of both population and power, and the Yao clan began to annex the Huang clan intentionally. They came up with the method of "drawing lots to merge the clans" to put pressure on the Huang clan. Not surprisingly, the Huangs lost the lottery, and from then on, they joined the Yao clan and changed their name to Yao. Later on, the Huangs left Yangji Village one after another, and the area around Shimenkou became a gathering place for the Yao clan.

After the formation of the village, Duanji Village had its own township administrative and deliberative bodies called the "Fathers and Elders Group" and the "Yongmutang". The members of the Fathers and Elders Group were elected from among the highly respected members of the gentry class of the four clans who were over 60 years old, and it had the power to make decisions on matters occurring in the village. After the decision is made, the members of the "Yongmudang" are responsible for its implementation.

The name of the village was used until the 1930s. By coincidence, there was also a village with the same name in Xinjiao Town, the western suburb of Guangzhou's Henan Province. Because of the renaming, the two "dustbin village" elected representatives **** business name change plan. In the end, the "Dustbin Village" in Xinjiao Town was renamed "Nanji Village" because it is located in Henan Province. In the eastern suburb of the "dustbin village" was renamed "Yangji Village" because there were several poplar peach orchards on both sides of Shahechong in those years. There is also a saying that the name changed at that time was actually "Yangji Village", which means "carry forward the glory of our ancestors".

Yangji Village is located in the alluvial plain of the Pearl River Delta, near the Pearl River. The terrain is flat, high in the north and low in the south. In the southeastern part of the village, there are several small duns: Yandun, Duntou and Meirendun. Several small hillocks are staggered in the north: Muyin Gang, Baishan Mountain, Honggangzui and Wangshan. The vast alluvial plain around the village is a vast expanse of good land and beautiful soil.

Yangji Village records that the original topography of Yangji Village was slightly higher in the center of the village, tilted to the east and west, and higher in the north and lower in the south, like a turtle with its head toward Baiyun Mountain and its tail in the Pearl River.

Yangji Village is surrounded by water on three sides, east of Huojiachong, south of the Pearl River, west of Shahechong, abundant water. At the entrance of the village in the east, there is an array of verdant bamboo groves, at the western exit along the Shahe Chung is a neat row of ancient banyan trees, at the southern exit is a water pine canal flowing east-west with two rows of towering water pine trees standing on both sides of the canal pit, and at the northern exit are arranged more than a dozen tall stone chestnut trees. There was a teacher named Bo Yun in Yangji Village who once lamented in this way: "East out of the green bamboo forest, west into the shade of the ancient banyan, south of the water pine tent, north along the Loc Shadow line." This is the colorful natural beauty of Yangji Village. Yangji Village stands quietly between these landscapes and fields. In those days, there were four pagodas in Yangji Village, namely Xiongzhen, Tailai, Changgeng and Yonggong, in the southeast and northwest of Yangji Village - today, Yangji Village still retains the replicas of Tailai and Xiongzhen pagodas - which were the only passageways to the outside world in all four sides of Yangji Village. Yangji Village was a very remote village in the eastern suburb of Guangzhou at that time, in order to prevent bandits and other large villages from encroaching, the village was surrounded by earth rammed into a few meters high and 2 meters thick "city wall", the four gateway pagodas at the same time also became the village's gate, after nightfall, the doorway was closed with a number of large cedar logs at the entrance, and on the upper level of the pagoda was a more floor, with the shifu to beat the night watchman! The four gateways were closed at night with several large cedar logs.

The main street extended by the four pagodas is the main road for villagers to go to the farmland for cultivation, and it also connects more than 80 horizontal streets and alleys in the village, linking up all the houses in the village. In the village, there are 6 ancestral halls, 5 public halls, 4 temples, 3 social schools, 7 houses of Ao Er Jurchen, and more than 400 residences of Ming and Qing styles with oyster-shell walls, pile mud walls, and red rice stone footing walls.

During the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, Yangji Village developed to its heyday and was much larger than it is now. Before liberation, Yangji Village covered an area as far as the junction of Shipai and Linhe in the east, the area around the present Shahe Street, the Gymnasium and the Zoo in the north, the intersection of Dadao Road in the west, and the banks of the Pearl River in the south, and possessed an uninterrupted 2,860 acres of good land. Even in Huangpu, Boluo and Tanxi, Dongshan Xinhepu and other places have Yangji village land.
