Winter jujube refers to a late-maturing variety whose fruit growth period is more than 120 days. In the north of Huaihe River and Qinling Mountains, its fruits all ripen in the first or middle of 10, while the extra-late-maturing variety ripens in the late of 10, so it is called winter jujube because of its late maturity.
There are not many varieties of winter jujube. According to the statistics of the editorial board of China Jujube Records, there are about 20 varieties, but only about 6 varieties have excellent quality and large fruits, and the average fruit weight exceeds 10g.
Lubei Winter Jujube (Yanlaihong, Apple Jujube, Rock Sugar Jujube)
It is a winter jujube variety with good fresh food quality at present. Because of its good quality, long origin and wide introduction and cultivation, it is currently distributed in Binzhou, Dezhou and Liaocheng in northern Shandong and Cangzhou and Hengshui in southern Hebei. The fruit is nearly round, with a slightly flat shoulder. The average fruit weight is 10.5- 13.5g, and the large fruit is 23-25g, with uneven size. The fruit surface is flat, the peel is thin, and the ochre is red and bright.
The pulp is crisp, tender and juicy, sweet and slightly sour, without residue, and contains about 38% soluble solids, up to 42%. The edible rate is 96.9%, which is suitable for fresh eating and of the highest quality. /kloc-0 ripens in the first half of October, and the fruit growth period is about 125 days.
