Lophatherum Brongn. is a genus of grasses in the family Gramineae, with only two species, L. gracile Brongn. and L. sinense Rendle, distributed in East Asia. Herbs perennial; leaves lanceolate, shortly stipitate, resembling bamboo leaves; spikelet with several florets, disarticulating below glumes, lower floret fruiting, others reduced to a bundle of empty lemmas, lemma apex shortly awned; glumes long elliptic, obtusely cuspidate, 5-veined; first lemma subleathery, much longer than glumes, 7-9-veined, convex or shortly awned.
