Which area is the Bund in Shanghai?
Shanghai Bund is located in Huangpu District, Shanghai.

The Bund, located on the Huangpu River in Huangpu District, Shanghai, namely Waihuangpu Beach, is a historical and cultural block in China. 1844 (in the 24th year of Qing Daoguang), the Bund area was designated as a British concession, which became a true portrayal of Shanghai Shili foreign market and the starting point of the old Shanghai concession area and the whole modern Shanghai city.

The Bund, with a total length of1.5km, starts from Yan 'an East Road in the south, reaches the Waibaidu Bridge on Suzhou River in the north, the Huangpu River in the east and the financial and foreign trade institutions in old Shanghai in the west. After Shanghai became a commercial port, foreign banks, firms, general associations and newspapers began to gather here, and the Bund became the financial center of the whole country and even the Far East.

There are 52 classical renaissance buildings with different styles standing on the Bund, which is known as the Bund International Architecture Expo Group. It is an important historical site and representative building in modern China and one of the landmarks in Shanghai.

Origin of name

At the end of the Qing Dynasty, most of the riverbanks except Huangpu River at the east gate of Shanghai county were natural beaches. At low tide, the river stagnates in the center of the river bed, exposing a large beach. At high tide, the river did not cross the river beach. Huangpu River is the main river in Shanghai. Because the river is wide and the water is urgent, ships sailing against the current have to pull the fiber to walk.

For hundreds of years, the footsteps of trackers have trodden a tortuous path on the Huangpu River beach, which is called the "fiber path", and this fiber path is the earliest road on the Bund. On the west side of the fiber road is farmland, and there are scattered huts between the buildings and ditches.

In the customary words of place names in Shanghai, the upstream of the river is generally called "Li" and the downstream of the river is called "Wai". Before entering the vicinity of the old county town of Shanghai, there was a small tributary called Shanghai Pu (now disappeared).

Shanghai people take the export of Shanghai Pu as the boundary, the Huangpu River beach in its upper reaches is called "Lihuangpu Beach" for short, and the Huangpu River beach in its lower reaches is called "Waihuangpu Beach" for short, the Bund.
