I. Water vapor distillation method
Manufacturing method for extracting aromatic components using water vapor. Proceed in the following order.
1 The plant material is put into the distillation equipment, the use of water vapor produced below, distill the aromatic components of the plant.
2 The water vapor containing the aromatic ingredients is concentrated in a condenser.
3 The concentrated water vapor is cooled and turned into a liquid consisting of a layer of essential oils and a layer of pure dew.
4 The essential oils are separated and bottled.
Pure Dew
When essential oils are extracted by steam distillation, the liquid obtained together with the essential oils is pure dew. It is also called "water essential oil". Puree contains water-soluble aromatic components from plants, and can be used directly as a lotion or as an ingredient in handmade homemade cosmetics.
This method, which is the most common method of manufacturing essential oils, is not suitable for plants that cannot withstand these extraction processes because of the exposure to heat and water vapor.
Essential oils that can be made by steam distillation
Ylang ylang essential oil, German chamomile essential oil, Roman chamomile essential oil, happy sage essential oil, cypress essential oil, sandalwood essential oil, cypress essential oil, marjoram essential oil, geranium essential oil, tea tree essential oil, neroli essential oil, patchouli essential oil, black pepper essential oil, frankincense essential oil, vetiver essential oil, peppermint essential oil, myrrh Essential Oil, Lemon Balm Essential Oil, Eucalyptus Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil, Lemon Lemongrass Essential Oil, Otto Rose Essential Oil, Rosemary Essential Oil and so on.
Two, pressing method
Extracting essential oils from citrus fruit peels mainly uses the manufacturing method of pressing. In the past, it was pressed by hand, but now it is pressed by mechanical roller and then separated by centrifugal method. Since heat is not utilized, the aromatic components remain virtually unchanged. This method is characterized by its ability to retain the original aroma of the plant. However, essential oils made by this method are prone to deterioration.

Sweet Orange Essential Oil, Grapefruit Essential Oil, Bergamot Essential Oil, Lemon Essential Oil, and so on.
Three, volatile organic solvent extraction method
The method of dissolving aromatic components with volatile organic solvents. In accordance with the following order.
1 The plant material and volatile organic solvents (petroleum ether, etc.) together into the extraction equipment.
2 The waxes and aromatic components of the plant are dissolved at room temperature.
3 The plant is removed and the solvent is allowed to evaporate, leaving a semi-solid "gel" containing the aromatic components and waxes.
4 The aromatic components are dissolved out using alcohol, the waxes are separated, the alcohol is removed, and the final aromatic substance is obtained.
The substance obtained from flowers in this way is called "Absoulte", and the substance obtained from resins is called "Resinoid", and is often used as a fixative in perfumery.
Essential oils that can be manufactured by volatile organic solvent extraction
Moroccan jasmine oil, benzoin oil, rose liquid, etc.
Four, fat absorption method
The use of oil adsorption of aromatic components of the manufacturing method, is the invention of volatile organic solvents before the invention of the traditional method of extraction. In this method, the flowers are arranged on a room temperature solid fat (butter, lard, etc.), and the method is divided into the cold immersion method (Enfleurage), which lets the aromatic components be adsorbed on the fat, and the warm immersion method (Maceration), which uses heated fats and oils to soak the flowers, etc. When the fat is saturated with the aromatic components, the flowers are soaked in the fat, and the flowers are soaked in the warm fat. After the oil has absorbed the aromatic components, the aromatic components are dissolved in alcohol. Then, the alcohol is removed, and the final aromatic substance is called the "original liquid.
What kind of essential oils can be made by the liposuction method?
In the past, this method was most commonly used to extract essential oils such as rose oil and jasmine oil, but it is so time-consuming and labor-intensive that it is now virtually extinct from the general commercial market, except in Grasse, France.
Fifth, supercritical fluid extraction method
Supercritical fluid extraction method is a new extraction and separation technology, because of the need for expensive equipment, so it is not currently commonly used in the manufacture of essential oils. It utilizes supercritical fluids, i.e., fluids in a state of temperature higher than the critical temperature and pressure higher than the critical pressure, as the extractant to extract specific components from liquids or solids for the purpose of separation. After placing the plant material into the extraction equipment, the fluid extracts the aromatic components from the plant, after which the fluid pressure is restored to vaporize the fluid leaving the aromatic substances behind. The essential oils obtained in this way are called "extracts" (extracts).
The making of essential oils is a race against time, with fresh petals just picked having to be in the process within 12 hours or they are unusable!
TIPS:
Awareness of how essential oils are extracted can help us understand:
Characteristics: For example, citrus essential oils will change chemically when exposed to heat, so they should be stored at a temperature that is sensitive to the temperature, and also have a shorter shelf-life than other types of essential oils.
Quality: The quality of essential oils varies greatly between different extraction methods. For example, there is a difference in quality between rose oil extracted by steam distillation and essential oil extracted by carbon dioxide.
Price: The more complex the extraction process, the more expensive the oil.
