Scientific Name: Sandy Cypress
Also known as: Forked Cypress, Tianshan Cypress, Twin Cypress, Xinjiang Cypress, Stinking Cypress, Creeping Cypress.
Family: Cypress, Cypress, creeping shrub
Reproduction methods: sowing, cuttings, pressing
Planting season: spring, fall, summer
Suitable for planting areas: all over the country
Country of origin: southern Japan
Morphological features
A dwarf cypress shrub. The height is less than 1 meter, the crown width is about 2 meters. Branches dense, oblique upward stretching, the bark is gray-brown, cracked into thin sheets and then fall off. Young trees are often spiny leaves, cross-opposed, the strong age of the tree is scale leaves, scale leaves cross-paired, arranged closely or slightly sparse, no upright stem. Expired around October, the fruits are borne on the tips of downward curving branchlets and are bluish-green before maturity and brown, bluish-purple, or black when ripe. The cones are mostly inverted triangular spherical in shape and vary in shape. The seeds are ovoid and slightly compressed.
Habitat
Cold-loving, light-loving, shade-tolerant, and tolerant of dry and cold climates. Avoid low humidity, anti-pollution, strong wind resistance, easy to root, developed root system, rapid growth, sand burial can be faster after the growth of new roots, can long endure sand burial wind erosion. Strong adaptability, low soil requirements, barren land resistance, can grow in calcareous land, slightly acidic soil. It can effectively absorb dust, reduce noise and adsorb harmful gases such as carbon monoxide. Strong resistance to pests and diseases, planting a high survival rate.
Planting Requirements
Sowing: First of all, select the seeds, it is best to select the seeds harvested in the year. The longer the seeds are kept, the lower the germination rate. Then soak the seeds in warm water at 60 degrees Celsius for a quarter of an hour, stirring so that the seeds are heated evenly, and then soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours to promote germination. Finally sowing, because the seeds are small, you can use a toothpick end of the water to stick to take the seeds on the surface of the substrate, cover the substrate about 1 centimeter, immersed in water. After sowing, sprinkle water moderately and wait for germination. Each acre of land can be planted 12 to 15 plants.
Cuttings: First of all, the selection of branches, late spring to early fall when the plant is growing vigorously, it is time to choose the current year and strong branches for cuttings, each branch is cut into small segments of 5 to 15 centimeters long, and each segment should ensure that there are more than three leaf nodes. Hard cuttings can be taken in early spring when the temperature rises. The cuttings should be watered promptly to keep the soil moist. Sunlight exposure is very important, you can use the shade net to remove 50 to 80% of the sunlight, to avoid cuttings from direct sunlight is not conducive to rooting.
Pressing: Pressing propagation branches to select enough strong branches, from the top of the branch down about 15 centimeters or so to peel off a circle of bark, take a piece of film, put some moist soil on top of it, and bandage the peeling place. About 4 to 6 weeks after the rooting, rooting can be cut off the branch transplantation.
Environmental greening
Because of its adaptability, anti-pollution, wind resistance is relatively strong, so it is often used in arid and barren soil areas to prevent wind and sand, prevention and control of soil erosion. For urban greening also plays a great role, can effectively absorb dust, reduce noise, adsorption of carbon monoxide and other harmful gases.
