In the sixth year of Tongzhi (1867), Lai and others led Dong Nianjun to fight the Qing army in Yinlong River (now Yonglong River) in Hubei Province. First, after the Nian Army split its troops from Henan, the Dongnian Army marched into Hubei and planned to cross the Hanshui River and follow Yichang into Sichuan. In December of the fifth year of Tongzhi, Luo Jiaji wiped out the fourth battalion of Xiang Army in Anlu (now Zhongxiang), Hubei Province, and captured the prefect Guo Songlin alive (he escaped only after being abandoned by the roadside because of a foot injury). After De-an Yu (now Anlu), Xinjiazhai destroyed Zhang Shushan, the commander of Huai Army, and attacked Zhang Shushan. On the 15th day of the first month of the following year, Liu Mingchuan, the prefect of Huai Army, was defeated by Yinlong River, and the company commanders Tang Diankui and Tian Lvan were killed. Bao Chao, the prefect of Xiang army, led a raid on the rear of Dongnian army, which enabled Liu Mingchuan and others to escape. Dongnian Army lost more than 10,000 people, so it abandoned its plan to enter Sichuan and went north to Henan. In February, Dongnian army re-entered Hubei, suffered a heavy defeat in Qishuishen Port, attacked Pengyu Orange, and returned to Yinlonghe area, which was blocked by Bao Chao, Liu Mingchuan and other departments and had to be returned to Henan again.

In the sixth year of Tongzhi (1867), on May 18th, the US Marines landed at the covered bridge in Taiwan Province Province and were repelled by the local Gaoshan people. First, in the twenty-seven years since Daoguang, the United States has sent ships to Taiwan Province Province to survey coal mines and ports for many times. In February of the sixth year of Tongzhi, Captain Rover of the United States and others landed in Lang (now Hengchun) in the south of Taiwan Province. 13 people were killed by local Gaoshan people, but only one China sailor escaped. In March this year, Li Xiande, the American consul in Xiamen, led a warship to retaliate, but it was repelled. In early May, the United States sent two warships to attack Taiwan Province Province. 18,1more than 80 American marines landed on the covered bridge and carried out a sneak attack. The local Gaoshan people used the familiar terrain and other favorable conditions to attack the US military, killed its chief officer and drove him to the seaside. The American invasion of Taiwan Province failed.
Dongnian army failed.
In the sixth year of Tongzhi (1867), on December 1st, the Dongnian army was suppressed by the Qing army. First, in May of that year, the Dongnian army broke through the encirclement of the Qing army from Yuncheng, Shandong Province, entered Dongping, and once again pushed Yantai, which was repelled by the British and French invaders. In June, Li Hongzhang ordered Liu Mingchuan, the Huai Army, to work with Ding Baozhen, the governor of Shandong Province, to stop the blockade along the Jiaolai River. In July, the Dongnian army broke through the defense line of the Qing army in Jiaolai and headed west to wei county. In October, Ganyu in Jiangsu was defeated by the Qing army, and Ren Huabang, the king of Lu, was assassinated by the traitor Pan Guisheng. Eleven was defeated by Shouguang seaside in Shandong province, and Fan Ruzeng, the longevity king, died in battle. After two wars, Ganyu and Shouguang, the main force of Dongnian Army was wiped out. On the eighth day of December, Lai led his troops to Liutang River, led more than 2,000 people to break through the tight encirclement, and went south many times along the east bank of the canal, trying to cross the canal, but all failed. In November, Lai was killed and captured by the Qing army in Wayaobao, Yangzhou, and died heroically in Yangzhou on the 16th. The Eastern Army finally failed.
