The puffer fish belongs to Article 34 of the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China

"It is forbidden to deal in food that does not meet the food safety requirements".

second, the current food standards do not involve the requirements on the limit of puffer fish and its toxins. According to the work arrangement for the integration of national food safety standards, the National Health and Family Planning Commission has included the standards of Determination of Tetrodotoxin in Fresh Tetrodotoxin (GB/T

59.26-27) and Determination of Tetrodotoxin in Aquatic Products (GB/T

23217-28) into the national food safety standards integration project plan. Before the release of relevant standards, in order to protect public health and life safety, food operators are prohibited from selling puffer fish.
