Gongmu is a plant of the Daphne family, including: Huanghuali, small-leaf red sandalwood, and rosewood.

1. Huanghuali

Hainan Huanghuali, whose scientific name is Dalbergia rosewood, is produced in Hainan. It was the most commonly used wood in the palaces of the Ming Dynasty. The color is more yellowish. The yellowish color is just in line with the royal aristocratic temperament, and huanghuali is oily and has a beautiful texture, making it very suitable for making furniture.

This kind of wood takes hundreds of years to mature and grows very slowly. However, light yellow furniture should not be heavily carved, as most of it is dominated by lines and simple textures.

2. Small-leaf red sandalwood

Small-leaf red sandalwood, scientific name is sandalwood rosewood. Originating in India, this kind of wood takes hundreds of years to mature, and its wood is almost empty, making it more difficult to obtain.

The wood quality is better than that of Hainan huanghuali, and the color is reddish and purple, just like the purple spirit coming from the east. It is suitable for full-scale workmanship and satisfies the craftsmen's ultimate craftsmanship. It was used in the imperial palace during the Qing Dynasty. The most commonly used wood.

3. Siamese rosewood

Laos Siamese rosewood, whose scientific name is Cochin rosewood, is said to have been used for shipbuilding by Zheng He during his voyages to the West. Later, it was also used to make furniture. It is still used today.

Laos Siamese rosewood has a reddish texture, beautiful texture, and sufficient oiliness. It also takes hundreds of years to mature. Currently, the materials for Laos Siamese rosewood are becoming increasingly scarce.

Maintenance of Gongmu:

Try to avoid collision between Gongmu and stationery supplies, avoid dripping of colored liquids, oil stains, etc., and do not use acid, alkali and other washing liquids for cleaning. It is best not to touch the water, and wipe it clean with a soft velvet cloth that is not easy to fade. You can often apply some furniture wax, or you can choose to use ancient hot wax.

The color of tea tables, tea sets, and tea trays made of tribute wood will darken after long use. You can dry the natural beeswax with a hair dryer and gently apply it on the furniture, and then wipe it off with cotton cloth.

In addition, when maintaining tribute wood objects, they should not be exposed to the sun. If they get wet, don’t be too anxious. Dry the water in time first, and then put them in a cool place to dry. After the wood is completely dry, you can apply some furniture wax appropriately. You can gently rub it with clean hands on weekdays, and the patina will slowly appear, which is both beautiful and protective of the furniture.
