1, wireless hotspot.
This is probably what people on earth do the most-plug in the network cable and USB wireless network card, and when configured, it can be used as a wireless hotspot.
2. Mechanical prosthesis.
Researchers at MITMediaLab used it as a controller for mechanical prostheses.
3, simple homemade notebook.
Connect the raspberry pie to the LCD panel, add a mouse, keyboard and power supply, and find a beautiful protective cover to turn it into a simple homemade notebook.
4.WiFi car.
An engineer from IBM installed it on a model car, and then controlled the car's action through the WiFi signal.
5. Send it to Weibo remotely.
Meteorologists tied it to a test balloon and used it to send a Weibo in the stratosphere.
6. Control the garage door switch.
There is also a master who controls the garage door with raspberry pie and combines Siri to remotely control the garage switch.
7. Monitor shooting.
Finally, there is a camera connected to WiFi. As a small shooting device, it is small and easy to hide.
8. Back up the mail.
One of the most important functions of using raspberry pie is to back up my mail. I use a software called getmail to check every email using POP or IMAP protocol, and check emails of various accounts regularly. Then save the mail in mbox file, which can be copied to another computer for long-term mail archiving at any time.
9. Establish a personal RSS reader.
I recently discovered miniflux, a self-hosted web-based RSS client that can be installed on raspberry pie. Like many people, I started to migrate my personal data after Google announced that it would close GoogleReader on July 1 day. I used rss2email for a while and asked it to send every rss item to my mailbox.
But I don't really like this method, so I spent some time looking for a substitute for GoogleReader and tried rss2email to find miniflux. Installing miniflux on raspberry pie is very simple. You only need to install PHP and a web server software in advance, such as nginx or Apache.
10, build a website.
One obvious use of raspberry pie is as the background server of the website. I have used it for a while and will use it again soon. Raspberry pie has enough ability to handle static websites, and some web frameworks are not a problem. I built a Flask framework on it, and even heard that someone built a Wordpress directly on the raspberry pie.
1 1, home network storage.
Raspberry pie can be a perfect low-power NAS (Network Attached Storage). Before, I connected a 500GB notebook hard disk to Raspberry Pie and installed an operating system on it.
I can store many files that need to be transferred between different computers on it. Then connect through SFTP, and then you can ask questions on any machine at home (even if you are not at home, it is not a problem as long as the routing settings are correct). You can also install Samba on pie, so that both Mac and PC can access it more conveniently.
12, on-site monitoring.
Another use of raspberry pie is to detect websites that are important to me. I wrote a Python script and run it regularly to ensure that these websites reply to the 200 status code (which means everything is normal). If the script judges that the website is out of order or inaccessible, it will email me the general situation of this event. The Python module I use is Requests, and the email module is smtplib.
13, event reminder.
I asked the raspberry pie to email me and tell me the important events I need to remember. I have used Google Calendar before, but only for simple activities. So I switched to raspberry pie, and a Python script for timed tasks was enough. I set the date, time and message to remember, and these parameters will be passed to my Python script. On that day, it will send a message to my mailbox to remind me of what happened that day.
14, family album.
My raspberry pie also supports a private website with all my family photos on it. I set the verification information, so only the people I want them to see can enter the website. This is much more reliable than your Facebook photo album, because your account on Facebook may be deleted and photos will be accidentally seen by strangers. It's simple. It just uses PHP to get the photos in the folder on raspberry pie.
15, jukebox.
As mentioned above, I regard pie as a network storage, so all my music is also on it. I connected a stereo speaker to my pie, and then played music on the command line of raspberry pie with mpg 123. Although there are many other mp3 players with graphical interfaces, I still choose mpg 123 because it is easy to use and easy to install.
