The current leader of Japan’s Hope Party and Governor of Tokyo (Mayor of Tokyo), becoming the first female Governor of Tokyo in Japanese history.

On September 25, 2017, Yuriko Koike held an impromptu press conference in Tokyo and officially announced the establishment of a new party named "Party of Hope". Yuriko Koike said she would personally serve as the party representative. The Party of Hope lost the general election in October 2017, and Yuriko Koike continued to serve as the leader of the Party of Hope in Japan.
