Material preparation: Zongye, thread ball and rice.
1, three or four zongzi leaves are slightly stacked from the outside to the inside as shown in the figure. Note that the lowest zongzi leaves must be on the outermost layer to avoid the overflow of glutinous rice. Roll the leaf root inward to the leaf body.
2. Pinch the joint between the leaf root and the leaf body with the left hand, and slightly flatten the circled body into a flat shape with the right hand.
3. Scoop in the glutinous rice to the height of 7/80% of the rice dumpling body, and gently press the rice dumpling body again until it is deformed.
4. Cover the leaves close to the body, bypass the tip of the rice dumpling from the right side of the body, then go back to the right side of the rice dumpling, stick the right side to the right corner, then to the left corner or even the tip of the rice dumpling, and the rice dumpling body part ends here.
5. Next is the leaf wrapping part. Choose a long scalded leaf, wrap it around the tip and corner of the rice dumpling against the tip of the rice dumpling, and then wrap it around the tip of the rice dumpling from between the two corners on the upper surface of the rice dumpling to the opposite side.
6. Insert the needle hole upwards into the middle of the rice dumpling body, put the rice dumpling leaf tail through the needle hole, and gently pull the needle. When the leaf tail passes through the back of the rice dumpling, gently pull the leaf tail and tighten it, and pay attention to the movement lightly and slowly, so as not to break the rice dumpling leaf and fall short.
The origin and significance of zongzi;
1, origin
Zongzi originated from the farming society in southern China, which can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period about 3,000 years ago. Legend has it that Zongzi was originally made in memory of the great poet Qu Yuan. It is said that Qu Yuan was a patriotic poet and politician in ancient China, and he was full of worries about the prosperity of the country and the happiness of the people.
When his suggestion was ignored by the government, he felt desperate and threw himself into the river. In order to prevent fish and shrimp from eating his body, people throw zongzi into the river to feed the fish, and row boats and beat drums to drive away evil spirits. Later, this tradition developed into the custom of making and eating zongzi during the Dragon Boat Festival on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.
2. Significance
Zongzi has a strong festive atmosphere and cultural significance. First of all, it is a symbol of the Dragon Boat Festival, in memory of Qu Yuan. People will wrap zongzi and taste it with their families during the Dragon Boat Festival to show their memory and respect for Qu Yuan.
Secondly, Zongzi also symbolizes family reunion and friendship. In the process of making zongzi, family members or friends usually get together to cooperate and strengthen their ties and feelings. In addition, the packaging forms and fillings of Zongzi also vary from region to region, reflecting the local customs and cultural characteristics of different regions in China.
