With the improvement of planting technology and the research and development of new varieties, the supply season of fresh peaches and nectarines in China generally begins in May each year and lasts until the end of 10, and July and August are the peak seasons for listing. Affected by the bad weather in 20 18, the output of apples and pears in China was seriously reduced, and the price of fresh fruit rose almost across the board in 20 19, which was affected by the overall high fruit price. Although it was another bumper harvest season, the prices of fresh peaches and nectarines in early season were significantly higher than those in 20 18.
During the listing period of peaches, the governments of various producing areas and rural cooperative societies organized many fairs to promote the fruits. In many cases, the place names of producing areas are the brands of products, such as the famous peaches in Wuxi, Jiangsu and Longquan, Sichuan. In China, the selling points of fresh peaches and nectarines mainly focus on the special color and taste of fruits. In the off-season of domestic fresh peaches and nectarines, similar imported products have a good sales enthusiasm in first-and second-tier cities in China.
Types of peaches
The more important varieties of peach are nectarine, flat peach, longevity peach and peach. Among them, nectarine and flat peach are cultivated as fruit trees, Shouxing peach and Bitong peach are mainly for viewing, and Shouxing peach can also be used as dwarf rootstock of peach. The tree is 4 to 5 meters high, with reddish-brown branches, lanceolate leaves, serrated leaves, nectaries at the base of petiole, and two kinds of flower patterns: rose-shaped and bell-shaped.
Drupe is mostly round or oblong except flat peach, and the fruit surface is evenly distributed with fuzz except nectarine. The flesh is white, yellow or reddish, and a few are red. The flesh is soft, brittle or dense, and the surface of the nucleus has different grooves, which are important classification basis for species and variety groups. The nectarine variety group is hairless outside the fruit, which is produced in northwest provinces, especially in Xinjiang and Gansu.
