Rice Pudding
Rice pudding has become a favorite homemade dessert over the years. The easy availability of ingredients and the ease of preparation have made it a favorite again in recent years. Most rice puddings use eggs and taste best when served warm.
Like many popular desserts, rice pudding has a long history. Most food historians believe it originated in the Middle East, where it began as a porridge made from several different grains. The Chinese and Indians created the food using rice, which was abundant in the East, as an ingredient. It has featured in Western medieval cookbooks, and like many puddings and runny foods, it was often served to the sick and disabled at the time, and the Romans used it only as medicine. In England, though, rice pudding had become a popular after-dinner dessert by Shakespeare's time.
