Xiaoxiang pig is also known as "mini pig", and its folk names are "Qilixiang" and "Shilixiang". It originated in the mountainous areas of ethnic minorities. Although it was raised in ancient times, the number was very small. It was only used as a "tribute" for the royal family and nobles to enjoy, and the people were not allowed to eat it, thus limiting the development of fragrant pigs. After liberation, it was on the verge of extinction. It was not until the end of 1980s that a national survey of livestock and poultry resources was discovered. At that time, there were only dozens of them.
Xiang pig is produced in the low mountain area bordering on Guangxi in Guizhou, with an altitude of about 800m, which belongs to subtropical climate.
