Morphological characters

Annual. Culms erect, slender, ca. 25 cm tall, compressed, glabrous, 3-4-noded

Leaf sheaths often shorter than internodes, compressed affairs smooth and glabrous, sheaths glabrous or sparsely hairy; ligules membranous; leaf blades linear, smooth or curled, basal leaves densely packed, 1-10 cm long, 0.2-0.3 cm wide. Panicle spreading, ca. 13 cm long, ca. 3 cm wide, branches single, often arranged on one side of the rachis, 1-3 cm long, lower branches several times perpendicular to the rachis, rachis and branchlets often twisted or reflexed; spikelet stipe very short; spikelets densely clustered, or arranged on one side of the branchlets, linear or lanceolate, yellow or slightly purplish, 0.7-2 cm long, ca. 2.5 mm, containing 14-40 florets, basal Florets usually spreading; glumes lanceolate, apex pointed, with 1 vein, ca. 2 mm; first lemma ca. 2 mm, ovate, apex slightly obtuse, lateral membranes conspicuous; palea ca. 1.4 mm, apex rounded, ridges ciliate, sparsely hirsute, persistent; anthers ca. 0.2 mm, purple-black.
