How to use the hand-drawn tablet?

This is a little bean sprout for learning design. Today I want to use my own personal experience to tell you how novices use hand-drawn tablets and how novices use hand-drawn tablets.

I did a hand-drawn tablet exercise this week. It was really my first time to draw with a hand-drawn tablet! I have been engaged in e-commerce design for several years. The further I go, the more I feel that those who have majored in majors have advantages.

But currently, there are really not many designers or art professionals who have graduated from majors, and most of them are non-majors. It was only later that I realized that in order to learn design well, I had to acquire relevant knowledge such as the three major components of art, and I also had to develop strong hand-drawing skills!

I was not born in a major, but I always firmly believe that hard work can make up for weakness. Now that the Internet is so developed, as long as I am willing to study hard, I can make up for what students in a major have learned, and what students in a major have not learned. Knowledge, I can do it too! Another goal is to try my best to improve my hand-drawing ability, even though I still have zero foundation/tears. So I bought a Wacom board in December last year for 2,100 yuan. In fact, novices can buy it for 500 yuan or 1,000 yuan. It depends on their own financial ability and conditions. I did it because of my relatively high requirements and the economy. Conditions allowed, so I bought one with a larger screen and better pressure sensitivity. It probably has a psychological effect.

I have a few friends who graduated from majors. They have been using small 500-yuan boards since college. They have been using them for several years. According to them, a 500-yuan board is enough. . But my personal suggestion is to buy Wacom, which is more reliable, and avoid buying some other brands.

Speaking of which, let me tell you about Baidu. What is a hand-painted board?

Baidu’s explanation is this: a digital tablet, also known as a drawing tablet, drawing tablet, hand-painted tablet, etc., is a type of computer input device, usually consisting of a tablet and a pressure-sensitive pen. , which is similar to unconventional input products such as handwriting tablets, and is aimed at a certain user group. When used for painting creation, it is just like a painter's drawing board and brush. The realistic pictures and lifelike characters we often see in movies are drawn one by one through the digital tablet. This drawing function of the digital tablet is unmatched by keyboards and handwriting tablets.

I will give you some pictures drawn by Baidu with a hand-drawn tablet. With a hand-drawn tablet and persistent efforts, maybe you can also output the following works! / proud face

Going back to what I just mentioned about my experience of buying a hand-painted tablet. I bought my first hand-painted tablet in December 2016. It has been nearly seven months since the end of July 2017. , how do I make good use of this board?

Because at that time, I thought the digital tablet was so high-end and profound that I couldn’t use it without spending some effort. I had to set up the shortcut keys and everything, and read all the instructions for use. God taught me. I might be able to use it after going through the usage methods. I was active for several days when I first bought it. I looked everywhere on Baidu for relevant information and videos on how to use the tablet, but now it seems that those videos are of little use to novices.

Of course, there are still videos that truly introduce how to use the tablet, but they are all recorded in English by foreigners and do not have Chinese subtitles! Forgive me for being uneducated and unable to understand English/I burst into tears. My mood was really shattered at that time! Because at that time, my eyes were very sore and tired after working 8 hours a day. It was really painful for my eyes to look at the computer all the time at night. Within a few days, my enthusiasm was almost wiped out, so I decided to use this board. It was kept in a forgotten place at home.

I haven’t used it for three whole months. It’s not that I don’t want to use it, it’s because I fell into a misunderstanding. I don’t think I can use it. It’s too advanced! In April 2017, I suddenly realized that this was not going to work. Should I just let a 2,000 yuan board lie at home like this? This was not my original intention, so I decided to bring the board to the office and just use it to work without studying it.

My colleagues were very curious at first, and they all asked me what this was? My explanation is: This, it’s nothing, it’s just used as a mouse. If you are interested, you can buy one, haha. Later, it turned out that my decision was right. I really used it as a mouse, and I understood that its function is basically the same as that of a mouse. The only difference is that it can simulate the feeling of real painting. The sense of pressure is like drawing with a pencil. The heavier the stroke, the thicker the lines will be; the lighter the stroke, the lighter the lines will be. As shown below

But if you want to draw such a pressure effect, you only need to install the tablet, turn on the shape dynamics of the brush and turn on the pen pressure in the transfer. In other words, after setting these two parameters, we can draw on the computer! Special attention should be paid to dragging the slide bar below the opacity jitter, otherwise the pressure effect will be lost. The flow jitter can also be turned on.

But at the time, I thought the tablet was too complicated and didn’t dare to use it! The places selected by the triangle frame in the picture above are all places that can be set or places that everyone needs to pay attention to. As for other scattering, texture, etc., you can figure it out yourself. Different settings will produce different effects when the brush is opened.

So my advice to students who are using a tablet for the first time is not to think too much, just use it as a mouse and use it for daily work, and don’t think about shortcut keys or anything like that. For us newbies, those are not important at all!

Only use it as a mouse, only use it as a mouse, only use it as a mouse! Say important things three times. Believe me, within a week, the pen on the hand-drawing tablet will become as obedient as the pencil in your hand. The effects you can draw on paper can be achieved on the digital tablet!

After you learn the basic usage, there will be no problem if you take some hand-drawing courses and try to set shortcut keys or something!

Here I would like to share with you how I practice using the tablet. After using the tablet as a mouse for a day or two, I started practicing lines. The method was to trace, just like copying a copybook, but This method can only practice lines, but you can't learn any painting skills. The specific method is to put the animation picture on the bottom layer, create a new layer on top, lower the opacity, I usually set the transparency to 50, and then start tracing.

The main lines should be drawn more heavily, and the secondary lines should be drawn lightly. After practicing a few more line drawings, you will be able to do it. At the beginning, it is best to use anime line drawings to copy, because the lines are relatively clear and suitable for novices. After you become proficient, you can take your own photos or photos of men and women and copy them. Here are some of my first anime line drawings for you to enjoy! You can practice this with me too! After drawing 2-3 pictures, I feel like holding a pen, really!

The last one was an attempt to depict characters, but I didn’t get it right. I only used one kind of brush, (the ugly one said). You can try it too. This is the method I've used so far to learn about the tablet.

Okay, let’s go back to the design activities I participated in at the beginning of the article.

To be honest, I haven’t drawn a real work yet, so I wanted to take advantage of this event to try to draw it today. My first time (hand-drawing practice/squinting smile) must be dedicated to Sister Noodles. To be honest, I am quite grateful to her!

The requirement is to use the following picture as the theme (Noodles took it for himself),

to design a work, there are no restrictions on style or anything.

I felt that I could not deviate from the main emotion that she wanted to express in this photo - sadness. In addition, the overall style, I think, is still based on comedy and entertainment, combined with the popular minions, and a little bit of my own creation.

The next step is to start the execution. I want to make a rough synthetic rendering first, and then trace it with a hand-painted tablet.

Let me show you my composite picture first -

In order to composite this picture, I also did the following work,

Baidu search: Eat with side face, eat bangbang Sugar, the minions are drooling, minions, find the right angle,

The following pictures are the pictures from the relevant angles that I found

Then after my processing and imagination hand-drawing, There is the picture below, which is the final entry.

Okay, here is the little bean sprout for learning design!

Love life, love design!
