Overview of Mitochondrial Diseases

Mitochondrial disease or dysfunction is a problem of energy production. Almost all cells in the body have mitochondria. Mitochondria are tiny "power plants" that produce vital energy for the body. Mitochondrial disease is an abnormality in the operation of the power plant within the cell. When this happens, some of the body's functions don't work properly. This is because if there is a power failure in the body: there is a gradual effect, as if a "blackout" or "blackout" occurs. Scientifically, it is actually a class or group of diseases. This is why mitochondrial disease can take many different forms. Mitochondrial diseases can be better understood as other diseases: such as autism, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Lou Gehrig's disease, muscular dystrophy, chronic fatigue, and so on. Or the analogy of the power plant, which provides energy to large communities, each part of each society needs electricity to a different degree. Similarly mitochondria provide different amounts of energy to each organ in the body. So when there is mitochondrial dysfunction, there are diseases that can seem serious and fatal like a major blackout like Leigh Syndrome, and there are diseases that are just a "loss of power" that can be serious, but not fatal.
