Chinese name: location of popliteal artery: adjacent to femoral fat surface and posterior part of knee joint capsule: five branches of anterior tibial artery and posterior tibial artery: the former enters the anterior calf region through the upper edge of interosseous membrane, and the latter reaches the posterior calf region through the deep surface of soleus tendon arch. Besides the muscular branches adjacent to the muscles, the artery also has five joint branches, namely, medial and lateral superior genicular arteries, middle genicular arteries and medial and lateral superior genicular arteries, which all participate in the formation of the arterial network of the knee joint. Because the upper part of popliteal artery is closely related to femoral surface, popliteal artery may be damaged when supracondylar fracture of femur occurs.
