The gill cover membrane is not attached to the isthmus. Dorsal and anal fins opposite each other, but the beginning of the anal fin is located anteriorly and inferiorly to the base of the dorsal fin. 2, jawed needlefish family for the temperate zone offshore pelagic fish, sometimes inhabiting the estuarine bay low-salt sea area, can enter freshwater. There is phototropism, to small fish for food. Sexual maturity at about 2 years of age, spawning in near-shore clusters, spawning in batches, with larger egg particles and external filaments.
