There are two situations when there are red threads in sugar cane:
Situation 1:
Sugar cane grows abnormally during its growth. Sugarcane itself contains pigments, its skin is red and its leaves are green. If the sugarcane cracks during growth, the flesh inside may turn red. This reddish sugar cane is edible. ?
Scenario 2:
The sugarcane has become moldy and has deteriorated. If sugarcane deteriorates, it will turn red. Moldy sugarcane is toxic and can cause cancer, mainly leading to digestive tract cancers, such as esophageal cancer, liver cancer, and intestinal cancer. This kind of sugar cane must not be eaten. How to distinguish the two situations:
The difference lies in the sugarcane meat that turns red during the growth process. It must be a very long red thread, which is related to the outer skin. When the spoiled sugarcane is cut, the cross section will also be red, smell strange, and taste astringent and leesy when you bite it. If it's really hard to tell the difference, don't eat it, it's safer.
