1. Body shape: The high-backed crucian carp is spindle-shaped, with a body length of 2.28 times of its height, silvery gray, dark back and light abdomen. I especially like to inhabit and forage in shallow water with fertile bottom material.
2. Living habits: Carassius auratus lives in the middle and lower layers of water, likes clustering, has a wide range of adaptation to water temperature, can survive in water bodies all over China, and has strong tolerance to low dissolved oxygen.
3. Feeding habits: Crucian carp is an omnivorous fish. The juvenile stage mainly feeds on zooplankton (including cladocera, copepods and rotifers). When it grows to 5 cm, it begins to feed on phytoplankton, organic debris and artificially fed commercial feed, and also feeds on a small amount of phytoplankton.
4. Growth and reproduction: High-backed crucian carp has the advantages of fast growth, strong reproductive ability, strong disease resistance, large individuals and easy reproduction, which can generally reach 300g-500g in the second instar, and it is also common for the third instar individuals to grow to more than 1000g, up to 3000 g.
