There are many opinions about the "Four Strong, Four Unique and Thirteen Heroes", such as "Eighteen Heroes" "Three Unique, Four Fierce and Three Weird" (Chen Yinrong's version), "Four Fierce and Sixteen Heroes" (see "Xing Tang Zhuan"), (Shan Tianfang's original) "Ten Unique" (see "Wagang Heroes"), and there are many "Eighteen Heroes Ranking" and "Sui and Tang Heroes Ranking" etc.

As for the Sui and Tang Dynasties, there are four versions in one book: "The Romance of the Sui and Tang Dynasties", "Shuo Tang", "Xing Tang" and "Hong Kong Tang". But not many people have read Xing Tang. This is because it is a very early version, which is the basis for the later Hun Tang and most storytelling versions. For the eighteen heroes of the Sui and Tang Dynasties that people often talk about, only 14 are mentioned in "Shuo Tang", and they are adapted into the Four Strong Thirteen Heroes in the storytelling version. The now popular Eighteen Heroes is also a later adapted version, which is a combination of the Thirteen Heroes in the storytelling and the Wuhu General of Wagang Mountain. Cheng Yaojin was added to "Huntang".
