Historical origin
Crayfish is not an exotic species. In recent years, scientists have discovered the fossils of crayfish in Xuyi, confirming that crayfish appeared in Xuyi more than 1 100 million years ago, instead of being an alien species as rumored.
Crayfish originated in South America, and entered China in large quantities in the 18th year of the Republic of China (1929). It was transplanted from Japan to Nanjing, China, and was introduced as bait for bullfrog breeding.
Xuyi has been rich in lobster and other aquatic products since the 1970s. Fishermen along the Huaihe River and the Lake mainly depend on fishing for fish and shrimp. With the increasing market demand, lobster artificial breeding has gradually emerged, and products such as quick-frozen lobster are exported to the United States, the European Union and other countries.
