The ancients would worship the moon at a distance on the night of the full moon in the middle of the year, pinning their good wishes and thoughts. Over time, it has become a custom and continues to this day.
Sacrifice the moon in autumn
The Mid-Autumn Festival evolved from the ritual system of offering sacrifices to the moon in autumn of ancient emperors. In ancient times, the ancient emperors would offer sacrifices to the moon during the solar terms of the autumnal equinox. With the changes of the times, the emperors of later generations moved the date of offering sacrifices to the moon to the nearest full moon day-the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the civilians followed suit and gradually evolved into the Mid-Autumn Festival that we are now familiar with.
Worship the land god
Autumn is the harvest season, and August in the lunar calendar is the middle month of autumn. At this time, the crops are just ripe. In order to celebrate the harvest and express their joy, farmers will worship the land god when August is full, and take the Mid-Autumn Festival as a festival of worship.
Other origins
Some experts in history believe that the Mid-Autumn Festival originated in the late Sui Dynasty. Tang Jun Peiji successfully invented moon cakes with the idea of a full moon, and distributed them to the army as military salaries, successfully solving the problem of military rations derived from absorbing a large number of anti-Sui rebels.

About the moon, people first associate it with the Goddess Chang'e flying to the moon in fairy tales.
In myths and legends, Chang 'e, a loyal wife, swallowed the elixir to prevent her husband, Hou Yi, from accidentally getting a bottle of elixir from falling into the wrong hands, and soared to the Moon Palace, becoming a well-known fairy of Chang 'e. When Hou Yi missed his wife, she would set up a table sweetmeats in the back garden, put on the fruits and snacks she usually liked, and offered a remote sacrifice to Chang 'e in the Moon Palace. After hearing the news that the Goddess Chang'e flying to the moon had become an immortal, the people were in the moon.
