There are two main theories about the origin of Guo Kui:

There is another kind of pot helmet in Xinjiang County, Shanxi Province, which is semi-circular with sesame seeds in the middle.

Guo kui is shaped like chrysanthemum with even fire color, and its skin is as thin as paper buns. It is layered by hand and cut with a knife, such as suet.
