Blue crab (scientific name Callinectes sapidus), also known as blue crab or delicious swimming crab, is a crustacean distributed in the western Atlantic Ocean, the southern Indian Ocean of Australia, the Pacific coast of Central America and the Gulf of Mexico. Because their meat is difficult to harvest, they are rarely used as food on the Pacific coast of Central America. They are representative crustaceans in Maryland and are important local catch.
