my country will ban the import of whole Norwegian salmon from September 10, 2014, but processed salmon, including those without heads, gills and internal organs, can continue to be shipped to China. This move is aimed at protecting our country’s aquaculture industry.
The cause of the incident may be that in the summer of 2014, my country detected the ISA virus in salmon imported from Norway. The fatality rate of this virus to fish can reach up to 100%. Fish infected with this disease cannot be eaten by humans. Once the fish are infected, it will bring huge harm to the salmon farming industry.
On September 12, 2014, a reporter from the South China Morning Post learned from the Guangxi Inspection and Quarantine Department that Guangxi had received an announcement from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. The announcement calls for a ban on the import of whole Norwegian salmon.
According to reports, most Norwegian salmon imported from Guangxi ports enter through Vietnam from the Pingxiang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. Recently, there are no import records of whole Norwegian salmon and Norwegian salmon fillets at Guangxi ports. In other words, the Norwegian salmon currently eaten in Nanning is likely to be imported from ports other than Guangxi.
