Characteristics:
The fish has a laterally compressed body and an extremely fat head. The mouth is large and terminal, and the lower jaw is slightly inclined upward. Gill rakers finely paged but not united. Oropharyngeal cavity with conchoidal supra-gill organs in the upper part, eyes small, low positioned, beardless, hypopharyngeal teeth spoon-shaped, teeth smooth. Scales small, ventral surface only ventral fin and even anus with cortical ventral ribs. Pectoral fins long, terminating well beyond the base of the ventral fin. The upper part of the body is grayish-black, the abdomen grayish-white, with many small irregular spots of light yellow and black on both sides.
Habitat:
The fish is tame, non-jumping and slow moving. Living in the middle and upper layers of the water body, with river and lake migratory habits, usually live in the river and lake with a certain flow rate. Filter-feeding, mainly eat rotifers, branchiostoma, copepods (such as cyclops) and other zooplankton and protozoa, but also eat part of the phytoplankton (such as diatoms and cyanobacteria) and artificial feed. Fish gill hairs larger mainly in the water microorganisms, sometimes fish insects and shrimp also swallowed.

Habitat:
The bighead carp grows in freshwater lakes, rivers, reservoirs, and ponds. It is mostly distributed in the middle and upper layers of freshwater areas. For warm-water fish, suitable for the growth of the water temperature of 25-30 ℃, can adapt to the more fertile water environment. Juvenile fish and immature individuals generally go to the lakes along the rivers and subsidiary bodies of water to grow.
