A wine appears many times in "The Legend of Mi Yue", which fascinates Ying Si. This is the sweet-scented osmanthus wine that his sister, Mrs. Ying, loves to brew. In fact, nowadays, this sweet-scented osmanthus wine is also a famous product in Xi’an. So what kind of wine is this?
Packed in a large plastic bottle, one bottle weighs more than a kilogram. When poured out, the sweet osmanthus smells fragrant, the color is milky white, like milk, the viscosity is slightly sour, and the aroma is mellow and sweet. Women who are not strong enough to drink can still drink heavily, and they can drink it warmly in this winter... Although they are both called "osmanthus", osmanthus thick wine is not different from the clear and golden osmanthus wine, but more like the fermented rice commonly eaten in the Jiangnan area.
However, thick wine has a longer history, and was called "yujiang" in ancient times. Ancient books record that during the Shang and Zhou dynasties, there was the prototype of sweet-scented osmanthus thick wine, "醆醴", which was similar to the clear golden wine produced in the Jiangnan area. The osmanthus wine is completely different. Later, people added the traditional Chinese medicine Huang Gui to the wine, which gave the wine the aroma of Huang Gui. It was named "Huang Gui Chou Wine" and its reputation reached its peak during the Tang Dynasty. It is said that Li Bai was able to write hundreds of poems after drinking this wine, and it was also this wine that made Yang Guifei drunk. Therefore, later when literati went to Chang'an, they specialized in drinking sweet-scented osmanthus wine.
Jia Pingwa wrote about thick wine in "Shaanxi Snacks", "General wine is clear, this wine is sticky, general wine is spicy, and this wine is sweet.
