The basic meaning of carp yue longmen:
Carp yue longmen, also known as Carp yue longmen and Fish Jumping at Longmen, is an ancient folklore in China, which happened in the area where Longmen Grottoes are located today. According to legend, ordinary fish can't survive because of the turbidity of the Yellow River. Only the pollution-resistant carp grows very well, and because its growing environment is yellow muddy water, the yellow carp will grow golden scales.
The ancients found that every spring, these golden carp would go upstream and form a jumping group in Longmen, but above the waterfall, no fish could board because of the rapid current. So the ancients imagined that these golden carp would become dragons after jumping over the Longmen.
Yuelongmen, a carp, is used to describe hard-working, indomitable, daring to think and dream. After the implementation of the imperial examination system, Longmen was used as a metaphor for the imperial examination, so it has a sacred position in the hearts of China people.
