The egret, also known as the little egret, is a bird of the genus Egret. Egrets and snowy egrets are small, with full crest and breast plumage. Medium-sized wading birds. Distinguished from other egrets by small size, black beak, black legs and feet but yellow toes. Inhabits marshes, rice paddies, lakes or mudflats. Seek food not in groups, but in scattered form or alone on river beaches and lakeside peeping for food. Feeds on animal food such as various small fishes, eels, loaches, frogs, shrimps, leeches, dragonfly larvae, mole crickets, crickets, ants, grubs, larvae of Coleoptera and Lepidoptera, aquatic insects, etc., and also eats a small amount of grains and other plant food.
