What is Tianbei?
Tianbei —— English name Tempeh, also translated as Danbei and Tianpei, originated from Nanyang Island, and is a naturally fermented soybean product. According to legend, the strains of Tianbei were brought with lobster sauce by Chinese people when they went to South Asia. Under special climatic conditions, the fermentation process evolved, forming a unique food, Tianbei. It is also recorded that Tianbei saved countless allied lives in World War II.
