However, Meson Tui did not want to get rich, so he retired to Mianshan with his mother. Jin Wengong ordered Yamakaji to be released in order to force him out of the mountain, but Meson Tui was determined not to go out of the mountain and eventually died of fire.

Jin Wengong remembered his loyalty, buried him in Mianshan, built a shrine and built a temple, and ordered the ban on cold food on the day of Jietui's death, in order to express his grief. This is the origin of the "Cold Food Festival".

The original place of the Cold Food Festival is Mianshan, Jiexiu, Shanxi Province, with a history of more than 2,600 years. The record that the Cold Food Festival originated from the burning of Jietui in Mianshan, Jiexiu, was first seen in Huan Tan's "New Theory, Volume XI, Separation" in the Western Han Dynasty.

Historically, the two festivals of cold food and Qingming were similar, and over time, they merged into one festival. "Tang Huiyao Volume 82 Vacation" clearly records: "On March 9, the sixth year of Zhenyuan: the cold food is clear, and it is appropriate to celebrate the Yuanri Festival, giving three days before and after." Therefore, "The Grand View of China Traditional Culture" contains: "Roughly in the Tang Dynasty, the Cold Food Festival and Tomb-Sweeping Day became one."
