It is known as "the famous capital of Huaizuo and the best place in Zhuxi", and also has the reputation of "the first canal city in China"; it is also known as Yang Yi Er and Moon City.

Yangzhou City, known as Guangling, Jiangdu, and Weiyang in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province and a type II large city. It is located in the middle of Jiangsu Province, at the intersection of the Yangtze River and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, between 32°15′-33°25′ north latitude and 119° east longitude.

Between °01′-119°54′, it is adjacent to Yancheng City and Taizhou City in the east; it is adjacent to the Yangtze River in the south and faces Zhenjiang City across the river; it is connected to Nanjing City in the southwest; it borders Anhui Chuzhou City in the west; and it borders Huai'an City in the northwest

The topography of Yangzhou City is higher in the west and lower in the east, with the hilly and mountainous areas in Yizheng City being the highest and gradually sloping in a fan shape from west to east. The terrain at the junction of Gaoyou City, Baoying County and Xinghua City in Taizhou is the lowest, which is a shallow lake area.

The highest peak within the territory is Datong Mountain in Yizheng City, with an altitude of 149.5 meters; the lowest point is located at the junction of Gaoyou City, Baoying County and Xinghua City in Taizhou, with an average altitude of 2 meters.

The northern part of Yangzhou City and the northern part of Yizheng City are hills, the east of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the north of the Tongyang Canal are the Lixiahe area, and the areas along the river and lake are plains.

There are Datong Mountain, Xiaotong Mountain, Na Mountain, etc. within the territory, and the main lakes include Baima Lake, Baoying Lake, Gaoyou Lake, Shaobo Lake, etc.

There are 80.5 kilometers of Yangtze River coastline in the territory, with one city and three districts including Yizheng, Jiangdu, Hanjiang, and Guangling along the coast; the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal runs through the hinterland, connecting Baima Lake, Baoying Lake, Gaoyou Lake, and Shaobo Lake from north to south, and merges into the Yangtze River.

The total length is 143.3 kilometers.

In addition to the Yangtze River and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the main rivers include the east-west Baoshe River, Datong River, Beichengzi River, Tongyang Canal, and Xintongyang Canal.
