The Toona is a tree that has rough bark that is dark brown on the outside and comes off in irregular lobes. It has long-stalked leaves, individual leaves that are lanceolate or long oval in shape, and a large number of flowers. It is a panicle with short pedicels.

The leaves of different varieties of toon are of different colors, the purple toon has red and green leaves. Some of them are reddish brown and green toon leaves are green and it produces white flowers.

The leaves of the toon tree are long-petiolate, even-numbered pinnately compound, with 16-20 leaflets. opposite or alternate, papery shape is ovate-oblong elliptic or ovate-lanceolate, apex caudate-acuminate, the sides are entire or sparsely serrulate, and the back is pinkish green.

Origin

Native to central and southern China, from southern Liaoning in the northeast to Gansu in the west, and from southern Nei Mongol in the north. South to Guangdong, Guangxi, southwest to Yunnan are cultivated. Especially in Shandong, Henan, Hebei planted the most. There are large areas of artificial forests in the Xinyang area of Henan, and there is natural distribution in the Qinling Mountains of Shaanxi and the Xiaolong Mountains of Gansu. Vertical distribution in the altitude of 1500m below the mountains and the vast plains, up to 1800m above sea level, the cold hardiness zone 6-11.

Toon preferred temperature, suitable for cultivation in the area of the average temperature of 8-10 ℃, the ability to resist the cold with the increase in the age of the seedling tree and improve. With seed direct seedling of a year, in a 10 ℃ or so may be frozen. Toon likes light, more tolerant of moisture, suitable for growth in the river, around the mansion in fertile and moist soil. Generally to sandy loam soil, suitable soil acidity for pH 5.5-8.0.
