Lactose, a disaccharide contained in milk, is too large a molecule to be digested into smaller glucose and galactose in the small intestine before it can pass through the intestinal wall and enter the blood vessels to be absorbed. But when the lactase enzyme in the small intestine fails to function, lactose is fermented in the large intestine, and symptoms such as flatulence, abdominal pain, vomiting or diarrhea occur within about half an hour to two hours.
Drinking too much milk in one sitting or drinking milk on an empty stomach may induce lactose intolerance.
Adopt a scientific way of drinking milk, such as do not drink milk on an empty stomach, eat some food beforehand; do not drink a lot of milk at one time, the amount of milk consumed should not be more than 100 ml each time, and a serving of milk can be divided into a few times to drink; increase the amount of milk consumed a little bit every day to gradually adapt.
For those who can't adjust to the physical condition or are severely lactose intolerant, you can take lactose enzymes under the guidance of a doctor to help break down lactose in the body, or switch to yogurt or low-lactose milk.
